September 21 is my dad’s birthday. He’s 83. He’s enjoying the 45 degree weather at the cabin in Minnesota. Here is a birthday poem I wrote for him and sent him this morning. It is inspired by 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 and my mother, who is the queen of poetry.
Though your jar of clay may be wasting away
You still need not lose heart.
The Bible says you can be renewed day by day
Even when you become an old fart.
Aching knees, a head going bald,
And a heart that no longer zings;
They’re achieving for us an eternal glory
That far outweighs these things.
So fix your eyes not on what you can see
Or the problems of aging like these;
Be encouraged, God says it’s temporary
So who cares if you can’t find your keys.
Happy Birthday, Dad!
